A programme of test trenching took place on 1 and 2 September 2022 at Monread Road, Naas. A total of 14 trenches measuring 863 linear metres, were excavated across the footprint of the proposed development.

Topsoil across the site comprised of mid-brown sandy clay. It varied in depth from 0.4–0.6m. Modern debris, including pieces of concrete, plastic items and occasional fragments of modern ceramic were noted in the topsoil during testing.

None of these items were retained. Natural subsoil generally consisted of grey sandy gravel, with occasional bands of grey/pale brown sandy clay.

No features of archaeological significance were identified during testing.

The non-archaeological features identified comprised three relict field boundaries, identified across six test trenches, a total of 121 agricultural furrows. The majority of these furrows were generally oriented either northeast–southwest or northwest–southeast, with some examples being roughly east–west or north–south aligned. They ranged in width from 0.48m to 1.1m and in depth from 0.02m to 0.15m. The fills consisted of mid-to-dark brown sandy clay, with rare fragments of shell noted in some.
