At the request of Ken Edmonson on behalf of Gary Sherwood, an archaeological impact assessment was undertaken for the existing barn structure at Oughterard, Boston Hill, Straffan, Co. Kildare. This was requested by Kildare County Council as part of further information regarding the retention of an existing barn structure and permission for insertion of dungstead, filter bed and associated pump.

Part of the site is located within the zone of notification of KD015-007001 deserted settlement and also within the zone of notification of Oughterard church and round tower KD015-007003 & KD015-007005 and RPS B15-01. The church and round tower are National Monuments in State ownership (No.190) and are also listed in the Record of Protected structures for the Kildare County Development Plan 2017-2023. The constructed barn structure is located just outside the zone of notification.

The ground in the north-west part of the site where the barn is located has been reduced dramatically and levelled. Natural subsoil occurs at 0.65-0.75 metres below present ground level.
