Archaeological monitoring of groundworks was carried out in preparation for the construction of a strategic housing development on a 9.2ha site in the townland of Oldtown, to the west of Celbridge, Co. Kildare. Monitoring was carried out in compliance with the archaeological condition provided for in the grant of planning.
Monitoring was carried out over various dates between 14 October 2019 and 27 April 2022.
Topsoil stripping and excavation of service trenches etc. were subject to archaeological monitoring throughout the proposed development area. Several French drains of unknown date were uncovered and sherds of post-medieval and modern pottery found in the topsoil. Nothing of archaeological significance was found.
