Archaeological testing on or close to the presumed line of the Pale Ditch earthwork, at Castlebrown or Clongowes townland, was conducted in advance of a planning application. Three test trenches revealed the presence of a shallow field boundary running parallel to and possibly associated with a line of trees, the line of which is depicted on the 25-inch, OS map of 1900. Modern rubbish deposits were encountered to the east of the presumed line of the earthwork at the south of the proposed development.
