Monitoring of the remedial works to Monasterevin Bridge in response to planning conditions took place from 4 May – 4 June 2022. The principal areas of remedial work involved repairs to the upriver section of the middle two (of four) piers of the bridge, more minor cleaning and re-grouting elsewhere and stabilisation works to the eastern bank. Portions of the river bed surrounding the piers were blocked-off by sandbags and the river water pumped out to provide a suitable space for the works. The exposed riverbed was subject to a metal-detecting survey (21R0238) while the construction works were monitored to ensure no adverse effects to potential archaeology would occur.
No features, finds or material of archaeological significance were identified during the course of monitoring or the metal-detecting survey.
