Archaeological test trenching was carried out on the site at Clonshanbo, Donadea, Naas, Co. Kildare. This was informed by geophysical survey 21R0104.
A total of 17 test trenches were excavated within the site. The test trenches targeted anomalies discovered during geophysical survey and were positioned in order to assess the overall potential of the site. Each trench measured 1.8m in width, and in total 236m of linear trenches were excavated. The test trenches were excavated down to the natural subsoil. The topsoil was a mid-brown silty clay, with a depth of 0.5m to 0.7m, that overlay a natural that varied from a compact light grey silty clay with gravel to a mottled brownish grey clay to a brownish orange boulder clay. Furrows, a tree bole and a concentration of decayed mudstone were exposed and account for some of the anomalies detected during geophysical survey.
No archaeological features or deposits were exposed or identified.
