Archaeological testing was undertaken in March 2022 with regard to a planning application to construct a glamping site at Shrone Beg, Rathmore, Co. Kerry. Seven trenches with a total length of c. 455m were excavated across the footprint of the proposed development site with a 13-ton back-acting track machine using a 2m-wide flat grading bucket. The trenches varied in depth from 0.2m to 0.5m. Stratigraphy was very similar in all the trenches comprising of mostly mid-greyish brown topsoil and bright orange silty sandy clay subsoil. Nothing of archaeological interest was noted in any of the test trenches and no artefacts were recovered.
