Archaeological testing was undertaken in February 2022 in response to a planning application to construct a single-storey dwelling house at Ballybeg, Dingle, Co. Kerry. The proposed development site partially extends within the limits of ringfort KE043-231. A series of four north-west/south-east oriented test trenches (T1-T4) with a total of linear meterage c.140m was opened across the footprint of the site. The south-east sections of trenches T1-T3 extended within the 60m zone of notification of the ringfort. Topsoil was incrementally removed using a 13-ton track machine with a 1.6m-wide flat grading bucket. Topsoil comprised of dark brownish/grey, good quality material with frequent small stones. The revealed subsoil consisted of dark orange clayey sand with frequent small sandstone inclusions. Nothing of an archaeological nature was discovered in any of the test trenches.
