Archaeological monitoring of footpath replacement works was carried out under ministerial consent C1100 at Barrack Street, The Green and Sion Hill, Dunmore, Co. Galway, between 22 August and 26 September 2022. All works were located within the zone of archaeological potential for the historic town (GA017-002), and the works along the south side of Barrack Street extended to within 20m of the Augustinian friary (GA017-005001), also a National Monument (No. 273). Excavations were minimal and the only features uncovered were remnants of old cobbled surfaces on Barrack Street and The Green, and part of an old box-shore drain towards the east extent of the works area on Barrack Street. These features are part of the infrastructure of the 19th-/early 20th-century town. They were preserved in situ as no deep excavations were required in these areas. No deposits, features or finds of archaeological significance were uncovered during monitoring.
