Archaeological monitoring took place of exploratory groundworks and main works trenching associated with Church Lane and Main Street, Eyrecourt Water Mains
Scheme in Co. Galway. The works were carried out at Church Lane, Main Street, The Mall, Chapel Lane and a part of River Street within the historic town of Eyrecourt (GA108-232).
The monitoring followed a high-level Cultural Heritage Constraints Assessment undertaken for the scheme by Archaeological Management Solutions in April 2022. The assessment found that the scheme was located partially within the archaeological constraints area for the historic town of Eyrecourt (GA108-232). There are four Recorded Monuments, nine Protected Structures, and one additional monument listed on the Sites and Monuments Record and one Cultural Heritage site situated within the area.
The monitoring was carried out intermittently between 7 June and 9 September 2022. In line with the assessment recommendations, six trial holes and the main work trenches were monitored under the direct and continuous supervision of a suitably qualified archaeologist, in order to identify any subsurface archaeological finds, features and deposits that may have been present.
No potential archaeological finds, features or deposits were noted during the archaeological monitoring.
