This report pertains to a mixed-use residential-led scheme to comprise of 48 new residential units, creche, community café, secure bicycle parking, and associated services at Ballyquirke, Moycullen, Co. Galway.
Groundworks (excavations) at the site were carried out without the presence of an archaeologist. The author was not informed that works were being carried out.
The author subsequently inspected the site on 28 February 2022. Groundworks had been completed throughout the site with excavations in parts reaching a depth of approximately 2m. The contractor informed the author that the subsurface to the west of the site comprised mainly fill material. Given the amount of groundworks which had occurred it was not possible to ascertain whether any archaeological material had been disturbed.
