Archaeological monitoring took place of groundworks (consisting of one continuous open-cut trench) undertaken along the southern end of the Dalysfort Road Water Mains Scheme (WMS), Salthill, Co. Galway.
The scheme was located along Dalysfort Road adjacent to Salthill Park and comprised the installation of 429m of new/replacement water mains along the existing road carriageway. The scheme forms part of an Irish Water nationwide programme to upgrade the existing water network.
An archaeological screening assessment carried out by AMS in August 2021 identified that the Zone of Notification (ZoN) of one recorded archaeological site classed as a ringfort (GA094-015) was to be impacted by the scheme. It was recommended that all ground excavation works within and 20m on either side of the ZoN should be archaeologically monitored.
No potential archaeological finds, features, or deposits were noted during the course of the archaeological monitoring.
