VESI Environmental Ltd (specialists in integrated constructed wetlands, wetland landscaping and Ecological & aquatic assessments) engaged Aisling Collins Archaeology Services (ACAS) to carry out archaeological monitoring for one of two proposed Integrated Constructed Wetland’s (ICW’s) within Dodder Valley Park, Firhouse, Dublin 24.
An Archaeology and Built Heritage Assessment for South Dublin County Council/ Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council was carried out by Dr. Eoin Sullivan of Gort Archaeology as part of a part 8 planning application by the council. Archaeological monitoring of one of the two proposed ICW sites (DR033) was recommended in the assessment
All ground disturbances were archaeologically monitored. No archaeological features were identified.
The ground is all made up to the formation level required for the ICW. It is dumped construction material associated with the construction of the surrounding housing estates. The natural ground level was not reached.
