Archaeological testing was carried out over the course of 10 days across two phases of work from 22 November 2022 using a mechanical excavator fitted with a flat grading bucket. The trenches targeted geophysical anomalies to fully investigate the archaeological potential of the site. Testing revealed nine areas of archaeological potential designated as Archaeological Areas 1–9. These comprise:

  • AA1: A shallow ditch or gully feature measuring c. 47m north-east/south-west by c. 33m and measures between 1.2m to 1.6m in width and 0.52m to 0.6m in depth.
  • AA2: A shallow curvilinear feature with possible outer diameter of 25m which measures 0.7m in width and 0.4m in depth.
  • AA3: A possible barrow with an external diameter of c. 5m with a width of 0.88m and a depth of 0.44m.
  • AA4: A lone pit measuring 0.53m in length, 0.27m wide and 0.12m in depth.
  • AA5: A series of shallow linear features with the southern feature measuring 1.1m in width and 0.4m in depth and the northern one is 0.95m width and 0.6m deep.
  • AA6: A lone pit measuring 0.88m in length, 0.87m wide and 0.12m in depth.
  • AA7: An enclosure ditch measuring c. 47m north-east/south-west by c. 33m which measures 4m in width and 1m in depth. Another ditch measuring 2.1m in width and 1m in depth is also present.
  • AA8: A circular enclosure measuring c. 35m north–south by c. 40m. The ditch measures 2.3m in width and 0.82m in depth.
  •  AA9: A circular ring ditch with a diameter of c. 10m. The enclosing ditch had an average width of 1.5m and depth of 0.6m.
