Mitigation measures agreed with National Monuments Service at the time of test trenching in 2014 (Licence Number 14E0165) included the in-situ preservation of RMP DU012-071 (enclosure). DU012-071 extends below-ground beyond the development area to the east. As a requirement of planning permission, a north/south fence was to be erected to define the eastern boundary of the development area. As DU012-071 extends beyond the development area to the east, the proposed fence would extend north/south across the site.

Groundwork was limited to the mechanical excavation of 28 fence pads, each measuring 1m long x 0.85m wide x 0.15m deep. Each pad was spaced 2.5m apart and was required to sit 0.15m above the existing ground level before being covered with topsoil. Test trenching carried out in 2014 confirmed there is approximately 0.3-0.35m of topsoil in the location of the works. As such all excavation for the fence pads was within the topsoil layer, and there was a 0.15-0.2m buffer zone between the base of the pads and any archaeological features that may exist.

No archaeological features or artefacts were revealed as a result of monitoring the mechanical excavation of 28 fence pads
