2022:530 - DONABATE: St Patrick’s Church, Dublin

Remediation works were undertaken at a site immediately adjacent to St Patrick’s Church, Donabate, Co. Dublin (RPS 0508, RMP DU012-005001) on 6 December 2022 due to recommendations from the NMS. These recommendations came as a result of previous unmonitored levelling work involving excavation and gravel deposition on a small 5m x 5m area of land adjacent to the western wall of St Patrick’s Church. Archaeological monitoring was undertaken of work which involved removing gravel to the level of the previously exposed soil, inspecting the exposed area and re-instating the topsoil. The exposed surface varied in depth from 0.1-0.2m (the deeper section was closer to the wall) and comprised dark brown moderately compact soil with frequent red brick, gravel, plastic and glass inclusions.
