Archaeological monitoring was carried out between 22 June and 25 July 2022 for groundworks for a development in Grange Townland, Co. Dublin. The development site is located in the northern section of the Grange Castle Business Park and is bordered to the south by the Grange Castle Business Park access road, to the north by the Grand Canal, to the west by a 110kV substation, and to the east by an undeveloped open field and a landscaped lake.
The results of the monitoring did not reveal any features of archaeological significance but did expose evidence for land improvement (drains) in the early modern to modern period, while a large pit filled with burnt red brick, limestone, mortar, slate and occasional vitrified material may be the remains of a demolished building possibly associated with brick firing.
Archaeological monitoring of groundworks associated with the proposed development are now complete and the site is archaeologically resolved.
