Archaeological testing was undertaken over the course of five days from 7 March 2022 at Grand Canal Place, Dublin 8.
A total of eight trenches were investigated across the test area which measured 110 linear metres in total. The trenches were distributed evenly across the development area to fully investigate the archaeological potential of the site.
Testing revealed a total of eleven walls of which three were part of the quay walls of the Grand Canal Harbour, four were part of the dry docks at the south-west of the site and four were related to old buildings or stone structures. A total of five cobbled surfaces were recorded on the site, three were at the base of the dry docks and two beside the edge of the Grand Canal Harbour. Finally, two stone-lined drains covered by stone slabs were recorded to the west of site.
