The archaeological monitoring of the topsoil removal groundworks associated with the site of the borrow pit began on 2 September 2022 and was completed on 5 September 2022. The light grey silty clay topsoil varied in depth between 0.22m and 0.42m and this was removed over the course of two days from the northern extent only of the total area of the borrow pit. The excavated area measured approximately 2500 sq.m (50m x 50m) in total. The mechanical excavation of the topsoil from this part of the borrow pit took place under constant archaeological supervision, using a mechanical excavator equipped with a toothless bucket, and this process revealed the mixed yellowy brown silty clay subsoil and nothing of archaeological significance.
