No deposits, finds features or structures of an archaeological nature were uncovered on the site, however that does not mean the information derived from the archaeological monitoring of the excavation of the permitted site was without archaeological merit or significance. The lack of any artefacts or finds relating to the late 12th-century ‘Battle of Evora Bridge’ firmly suggests that the battle was not fought on the exact area of the permitted site. A further aspect of the site which has archaeological implications for other coastal and riverine sites is the imposition of the Western Pier. That imposition resulted in an alteration to the coastal/tidal dynamics of the specific site area and although the resultant deposition of significant quantities of sands and silts occurred naturally, the presence of finds of a late 19th-century date, as deep as 4m below present ground level, occurred in those ostensibly natural deposits.
