At the request of Bartra Capital Ltd archaeological monitoring was carried out of all topsoil removal across the entire site as per recommendations in the archaeological impact assessment September 2020 and as a requirement of a planning condition.
Monitoring was carried out across the entire site from May 2021 to October 2021 and again in November 2022. The monitoring and subsequent excavation of the site was also carried out by a team of archaeologists within this time.
Monitoring revealed many different phases of archaeology. Features excavated included a well over 4m deep, medieval field ditches, water channels, pits, an 18th-century stone building (foundation levels) with associated boundary walls and drains. The earliest levels dated to the 12th -14th century and continued up to the 18th - 19th centuries.
