Testing was carried out pre-planning and follows a geophysical survey of the area. The testing results will be included in an EIAR which will be submitted with the planning application.
The site is located in Mooretown townland, in the Northwest Logistics Park, Ballycoolin, Dublin 15. Testing took place over ten days from 10–23 June 2022 and 50 test trenches were opened across the site, targeting anomalies indicated in the geophysical survey.
The results of the testing correspond very closely with the interpretation of the geophysical survey results. The identified sites include two areas of burnt mound activity typical of the Bronze Age, three circular or oval ditched enclosures which could be either Bronze Age or early medieval in date, a further possible enclosure or series of pits, and an extensive area of ditches, spreads and pits representing a later medieval settlement.
