The purpose for monitoring on the site was to locate and identify any sub-surface archaeological remains that may be impacted by the development and to supervise the demolition of the structures that stood on the site.

The building was in a very poor state of repair by the time the works had begun in December 2019. The developer has obtained permission, where the submitted drawings to retain the existing elevations and preserve the plan form of Flag Alley. The brick from the west-facing façade of the building was removed by hand along with any original structural timbers and they have been stored to be reused in the new development.

The basement level of the eighteenth-century building has been retained in-situ.
