An archaeological excavation took place of Grand Canal Harbour, also known as James Street Harbour, Dublin 2. Located to the south of James’ Street and to the south and west of Grand Canal Place, there was substantial survival of the primary harbour structures built in 1780.
The principal focus of the excavation centred on the post-medieval remains of Grand Canal Harbour with particular focus on the Middle Harbour and the cellars of the original office block that was located along the western boundary of the development site.
Much of the harbour is likely to still survive outside of the development site to the south and to the east.
