Works were carried out by NIE networks in order to re-discover an electric cable that had been laid in 2015. The purpose of which was to accurately recorded its depth which would then inform the design of a future road-widening scheme with better sight lines, particularly within that stretch of Church Road. With the adjacent fields sitting considerably higher than the road level the proposed plan was the scarp and re-grade a section of the field in order to provide a better line of sight on the bend of the road. It was hoped that the current installed level of the cable would be sufficient in order for the planned re-grading to proceed without the need for the cable to be removed and re-laid. In order to locate the cable, 5 small archaeologically supervised test pits were mechanically excavated to the depth of the cable. The proposed archaeological supervision had been requested by Department for Infrastructure (DfI) as part of their operating procedures. No Archaeological deposits were uncovered.
