The area under archaeological testing is located at Finner, Bundoran Co. Donegal. The proposed development works entail the construction of a dwelling house and garage together with site works to provide for the development of 7 sites in the future and all associated works. The site is located along a minor road which provides access to Tullan Strand. The development area consists of one field with undulating topography which slopes from north to south. The site had low grass cover during the site inspection and was featureless.
Archaeological testing took place on the 23rd and 24th of May 2022. A total of 11 linear test trenches were excavated at intervals across the entire proposed development site. The total area excavated comprised 938.13m of open trench. All trenches were excavated to the top of the boulder clay substrate where possible. No features or deposits of an archaeological nature were noted during testing. A chert scraper was found in the topsoil during the excavation of Test Trench 3.
The proposed development will not impact on any known archaeological site or monument, neither will it have a visual impact on any archaeological monument.
