Archaeological monitoring was proposed for pipe laying close to several Recorded Monuments. Pipes were laid in an open-cut trench close to ringfort CO135-032, revealing that the modern road surface directly overlays glacial till. Adjacent to the graveyard associated with the church CO035-030, the road is in a cutting and the road surface sits on bedrock. Adjacent to the church itself the road surface is over glacial till. For the southern part of the scheme, south of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and including the part adjacent to enclosure CO135-134, the pipes were laid using a directional drilling technique and monitoring was limited. No archaeological deposits or artefacts were observed in any part of the scheme subject to monitoring
