Test excavation was carried out at this c.10Ha site in September 2021, when a levelled fulucht fiadh was located near the base of a south-facing slope in an area of old pasture. The site was subsequently granted planning permission as a landfill site with a condition of monitoring of topsoil stripping.
The original licence was reactivated in December 2022 following the supervised construction of a buffer zone, consisting of a silt trap and bund around the fulucht fiadh and an associated wetland area.
Between 0.3m and 0.6m of a mod-brown loamy topsoil was removed overlying an orange/grey, gravelly boulder clay. Only half of the site was stripped and the remainder will be monitored when the area is needed.
No archaeology was found.
