2022:462 - KILGOBNET, Cork

An Impact Assessment was required for a single house development c50m north of an early ecclesiastical enclosure, children’s burial ground and two bullauns (O059=065001-4) associated with St Gobnait. The development site consisted of the south-west corner of a south-facing field of pasture adjacent to the local road. A geophysical survey was carried out with inconclusive results (22R0245), followed by test excavation. A total of 9 trenches were excavated with a total length of c. 180 linear meters. A mid-brown loamy topsoil varying between 0.3m and 0.6m in depth, overlay an orange boulder clay with occasional large field stones. No archaeological finds or features were found.
