An archaeological test excavation was carried out at Camden Place, Camden Quay, Cork as a condition of planning for the construction of a new hotel complex in a derelict site on the north side of the River Lee to the rear of the former McKenzie's building, which is a protected structure. The development is located outside the Zone of Archaeological Potential which surrounds the medieval historic core of Cork (CO074-034001) and no recorded monuments occur within the footprint of the site.
Four test trenches were excavated to the natural clay deposits and, aside from exposing the footings of two warehouses that existed on the site until 2016, the test excavation did not reveal any features of archaeological significance.
