Archaeological monitoring for the Athlunkard Bridge to Larkin’s Cross Water Mains Scheme, County Clare was carried out in in February/March 2022. The works involved a watching brief for the excavation of a 500mm wide, 300m long open cut trench dug to a depth of 1.1m along the northern carriageway of the Corbally Road on the eastern bank of Athlunkard Bridge (CL063-026---). The road is heavily serviced with pipe infrastructure and the works exposed imported fills overlaying a compact orange, brown clay overlaying a natural, brown, gravelly sandy clay. Both these layers were entirely sterile with no archaeology found.
