Archaeological monitoring of groundworks associated with the construction of a residential development on Mill Street, Tullow, Co. Carlow where carried out in March 2022. Monitoring was carried out in compliance with the conditions of the grant of planning by Carlow County Council.

The development, which comprised the partial demolition of a vacant public house and its conversion into a residential property via the construction of 10 incorporated residential units, is located within the zone of archaeological potential/zone of notification (Zone id: R145693) for the historic town of Tullow (CW008-045).

Archaeologically monitored excavation works comprised predominately the removal of modern concrete floors, ground reductions below previous floor levels, and the excavation of a number of new foundation trenches. Excavated material consisted largely of made ground and natural gravels.

No finds, features or deposits of archaeological significance were uncovered during any of the archaeologically monitored works at the site.
