Archaeological test trenching was completed in advance of a 8.4-hectare extension to a quarry at Tober Upper, Dunlavin, Co. Wicklow.

A total of five test trenches totalling 2,348.5 linear metres were excavated on 6 and 7 January 2021.

Two pits of archaeological significance were identified at the south-east corner of the proposed quarry 3m from the field boundary and access laneway which will be preserved in situ. They were on average 1m in diameter and 0.28m in depth and were filled with burnt mound material comprising a black silty sand with frequent heat-affected sandstone inclusions. It is possible that burnt mound may survive under the northern boundary of the site.
