Archaeological test trenching took place on 16 September 2021 in advance of the erection of 4 private dwellings at a site within the curtilage of Artramon Cottage, Crossabeg, Co. Wexford. Artramon Cottage is a protected structure listed within Volume 2 of the RPS in the County Wexford Development Plan 2013-2019 (Refs: WCC 1243; NIAH 15703243).
There was the possibility of an unlocated early ecclesiastical site in the area of Crossabeg, Ballynaleck and St. Edmond's based on the results of the desk-based assessment and so test trenching in advance of development was requested. A total of approximately 505m of test trenches were excavated across the footprint of the development site where the 4 dwellings will be built. The site area measured 150m x 60m. The trenches had to be altered due to the presence of trees which are being retained. A total of ten test trenches were excavated at 15m intervals depending on the ground conditions. No finds or features of archaeological significance were exposed.
