A programme of archaeological monitoring was undertaken as a condition of planning for the Gorey Reginal Water Supply Scheme. A full archaeological presence was maintained during the removal of topsoil at five locations, identified in the Environmental Impact Assessment Report as potential areas of archaeological significance. Monitoring was primarily undertaken during trenching for pipeline installation on sections of the public road network, in areas that had been disturbed during previous development associated with the water supply network for the region. Topsoil stripping along two wayleaves providing access to existing pumping stations was also supervised. No features or finds of archaeological significance were noted in any of the areas that required archaeological monitoring.
