Test trenching was carried out ahead of the development of a proposed electrical substation. Testing revealed two possible pits within the proposed development site.
Upon submission of a revised method statement a c.30m x 45m area was opened around the pits to allowing for the excavation of these features. The remains of a small number of ephemeral pits, hearths, and stake-holes were excavated. These features were evidently truncated by agricultural activity. A possible hollow scraper was recovered from the fill of one of the pits.
Post-excavation analysis of soil/charcoal material and radiocarbon dates is pending.
