In May 2021 three small test trenches were cut by hand at 2 Abbeyview, Dungarvan, to assess the impact of proposed building works. At the front of the building garden soil and construction material from the early 20th century extended to below formation level for the proposed foundations, and to the rear, subsoil underlay concrete and hardcore. No features of archaeological interest were found overlying or cutting the subsoil. The cutting of foundation trenches for new structural elements was monitored in July and August; little of archaeological interest emerged during groundworks. The site is within the walled town of Durgarvan, but there was no suggestion of buildings on the site before the late 19th/early 20th century.
