Archaeological monitoring of ground disturbance was undertaken at Aglish, Co Waterford in March 2021 to fulfill a grant of planning from Waterford City and County Council for the development of 4 house sites. The development site is located across the road from Aglish Church and graveyard (WA034-003001). A single-storey derelict stone house and associated stone outbuilding fronting onto the village street were located on the site. These two buildings were demolished prior to the excavation of the new house foundations. The new house sites comprised 4 2-storey semi-detached town houses. Two rectangular blocks with a central foundation strip were excavated by machine. The foundation trenches were approximately 1m in width by 0.4 – 0.8m in depth. The site sloped from north-west to south-east so the foundation trench was deeper at the north-west end of the site. The area between the external foundation strip and the central foundation strip was reduced by approximately 0.2 - 0.3m. The topsoil and sod cover was very shallow across the area of the site. The subsoil was a uniform light orange brown sandy silt clay.
No archaeological stratigraphy, features or artefacts were recorded while monitoring the excavation of the foundations in Aglish.
