Stage (i)a test excavation was carried out on the route of the proposed N74 Ballyhusty Realignment Scheme, near Tipperary town, Co. Tipperary. The scheme involves the upgrade and realignment of the road, removing a number of bends, and incorporates land on both the north and south sides of the current N74 over a distance of approximately 1km.
A total of 865 linear metres of trench was excavated, representing a 12.9% sample of the Land Made Available for the investigation. Four previously unknown archaeological sites were discovered: Garranacanty 1 (ditches, potentially medieval), Garranacanty 2 (wall, potentially post-medieval), Corrogemore 1 (pits and ditches, undated) and Corrogemore 2 (pit, undated).
