An archaeological impact assessment was undertaken as part of seeking planning permission to build an agricultural shed at Redcity, Fethard, Co. Tipperary. As part of the assessment a programme of archaeological testing was undertaken on the site of a proposed works. The farm development works are c. 100m to the south-west of a recorded monument, a church (TD070-041).
This new farm building was sited within a functioning farm, with a substantial part of the new building within a pasture field bounding the farm yard. In the 1840s this field was a plantation, removed by the early twentieth century. The field is prone to flooding/waterlogging, but a series of field drains have been laid by the landowner to alleviate the problem.
Three test trenches, all within the green field area, were positioned on the imprint of the new building. No archaeological remains or features were revealed. However, two drains as well as a third possible drain were uncovered in test trench No. 1. Within test trench No. 2 a small spread of burning was exposed.
