Tipperary County Council undertook service duct and footpath replacement works on New Street, Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary (Carrickbeg townland). The project entailed service trench excavation for reinstallation of services (drainage and ESB); realignment of same; excavation for resurfacing and new paving finish works, including kerbing, throughout New Street. These linear works measured 140m north to south by 10m and were set firmly within the urban core of the town. The deeper works will achieve c. 1m in depth and run the length of the works on either side of the street and will include four road crossings. Shallower works, being footpath and kerbing replacement, will entail achieving depths of up to 0.4m, but the majority are anticipated to be up to 0.3m.
The project has been partially completed with exposed stratigraphy being either modern or 19th-century building debris. While the project commenced in 2020, it resumed from 4 January 2021 to 21 July 2021. No archaeology was encountered and the works are set to resume throughout the project.
