A localised test trench measuring 2m by 2m was manually excavated on the footprint of a single storey extension to the rear of the existing retail unit for use as a pharmacy at Feehan’s Road, Cashel County Tipperary. The development site is in close proximity to the line of the medieval town wall within the Zone of archaeological notification for the historic town of Cashel (TS061-025---) and the test trench was excavated as part of an archaeological assessment in order to comply with a Further Information Request issued by Tipperary County Council.
The excavation of the test trench within the site boundary revealed substantial deposits of artificial or made ground which exceed the foundation depth for the proposed structure but did not reveal any archaeological features, finds or deposits.
