Test excavation was undertaken on 2 November 2021 on lands at Mail Coach Road to Burton Street Link Road, Knocknaganny, Sligo Town, Co. Sligo in rainy and cold conditions. A total of 4 test trenches with a combined length of 85 linear metres were excavated within the site (20% of the 850 sq. m subject area). Trenches were spaced at regular intervals and located in order to assess the archaeological potential of the overall site.

Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered during the excavation.
