Archaeological test trenching was carried out on the site at Dunshaughlin Road, Ratoath, Co. Meath; this was carried out following geophysical survey 21R0165.
A total of three test trenches were excavated within the site. Each trench measured 1.8m in width, and in total, 38m of linear trenches were excavated. The test trenches were excavated down to the natural subsoil. In general, the trenches revealed brown silty clay topsoil and sod, exposing grey and yellowish-brown sandy clay natural at a depth of c. 0.67-1.1m. In Trench 1, at the south end of the site, at a depth of 0.3m the foundation of a building depicted since the first edition (1835) OS map were exposed. Modern pottery was encountered but not retained. Trenches 2 and 3 were excavated at the north end of the site, where made ground was encountered with a number of services and modern waste.
No archaeological features or deposits were exposed or identified. The work is now complete.
