Licensed archaeological monitoring was undertaken in compliance with the grant of planning permission to change site layout and boundaries and re-locate a proposed poultry unit and all associated ancillary site works at Ahawilk, Co. Limerick. The proposed development site abuts and extends through the zones of notification of the sites of two ringforts, LI044-089 and LI044-090, along its northern limits.
Monitoring was undertaken in ideal weather conditions in September 2021. Topsoil was stripped from the entirety of the proposed new poultry unit, comprising an area measuring c.121m x 70m. Nothing of an archaeological nature was noted in the monitored area.
