Archaeological test trenching was carried out in March 2021 at Srahanboy, Camross, County Laois using a mechanical excavator fitted with a flat grading bucket. The trenches were aimed to establish whether archaeological features exist within the footprint of the proposed development. Test trenching within the site comprised the excavation of five trenches, totalling 250 linear metres. The topsoil layer consisted of a mid-brown sandy clay and it was generally 0.5m deep becoming thinner at the top of the slope in the northern area or the site. The subsoil consisted predominantly of gravels, mixed with orangish-brown sandy clay and with occasional boulders. A number of linear post-medieval and modern agricultural features were noted, but nothing of archaeological significance was identified.
