Archaeological monitoring of topsoil stripping was undertaken at a proposed residential development site on the southern side of the Dublin Road (R445) in Kilminchy townland, Co. Laois. The site measures 1.14 hectares and is located on the eastern outskirts of Portlaoise town, Co. Laois. The monitoring was carried out on 8–10 December 2021.
The topsoil on the site consisted of dark brown silty clay, measuring 0.15–0.75m in depth. The natural subsoil consisted of mid-brown to light yellow brown clayey sand at the northern portion of the site and mid-brownish grey clayey sand and mid-orange yellow sand at the southern portion of the site. No potential archaeological finds, features, or deposits were noted during the archaeological monitoring. The only features revealed were several post-medieval/modern agricultural furrows.
