Pipe laying was carried out on behalf of Irish Water within the existing road network at Tonduff, Abbeyleix, Co. Laois as part of the Abbeyleix Watermains Rehabilitation Scheme. Archaeological monitoring was recommended as the north-west part of the scheme is located close to LA023-061 (burial mound).
The construction technique for the pipe laying, with directional drilling used, meant that there was little in the way of observable groundworks. Monitoring of drill pits close to the Recorded Monument did not reveal any archaeological features or deposits.
