Archaeological test excavations as part of an Archaeological and Visual Amenity Impact Assessment were carried out at Mohil, Dunmore, Co. Kilkenny on 29 May 2021, in response to a request for further information by Kilkenny County Council, under planning reference 2164, relating to the proposed construction of a milking parlor, dairy plant, store room, collecting yard, slatted shed and associated site works
A total of 6 test trenches were machine excavated across the proposed development site. These were laid out in a targeted array to cover the entire footprint of the proposed milking parlor and slatted shed, yard and driveway.
Excavated trenches measured 1.8m in width, 40m in length and 0.22-0.35m in depth. Stratigraphy was consistent throughout the trenches, consisting of 0.1m of sod overlying 0.15-0.25m of mid-brown sandy silty clay over light orange-brown natural silty sand.
No archaeological features, objects or deposits were uncovered during archaeological test-excavation.
