Archaeological testing of a greenfield site was carried out at Taghadoe, Co Kildare. The site is located north of the ecclesiastical site of Taghadoe (KD010-014) which includes an early medieval round tower (National Monument No.70).
Archaeological testing was requested as part of (further information) planning condition, Kildare County Council.
An archaeological impact assessment was completed previously by Dr. Jason Bolton in September 2019 which includes an architectural and historical background.
The archaeological testing was carried out in April 2021. There was no archaeology identified in the test trenches excavated. However, given the proximity to the ecclesiastical site and the recommendations in Bolton's archaeological impact assessment it is recommended that a licenced archaeologist is retained to monitor ground excavations associated with the development.
